Assoc. Prof. RNDr. František Lofaj, DrSc., is a leading researcher and vice-head of the Division of Ceramic and Non-metallic Materials at the Institute of Materials Research of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (IMR SAS) in Kosice, Slovakia.

He graduated and received his PhD degree from solid state physics at Kharkov State University, Ukraine, in 1983 and in 1990, respectively.

Since 1991, he works at IMR SAS in the field of mechanical properties of structural ceramics, especially creep of silicon nitride. His main research activities during last two decades involve the development of hard PVD coatings and control of their mechanical and tribological properties.

He is an author and co-author of 114 publications with 1727 citations (H = 22) registered in WOS.
